Un-Wasted Suffering

I have had two sweet friends this Spring lose babies due to miscarriage.  I say due to miscarriage because that is the medical name given when the baby dies in utero.  But is that really what is the cause?  Every once in a while my kids ask why our third child died in miscarriage. How …

  • #Hope*Writers Challenge Day 2 = Progress
Progress. What does that have to do with Luke 6:42? The Christian life is all about changing, progressing, being renewed spiritually, becoming more like Jesus. In our world of unrest, finger pointing and playing the blame game, I am brought back to my part in all of it. What can I do? What is my part? I want to glorify God in all that I do, I want to love my husband and children well, I want to make a positive impact on the world around me. How do I do that? The practical list of to do’s are often reading Scripture, praying, asking God to search my heart and show me where I am in the wrong, and having honest conversations with those closest to me and allowing them to speak truth into my life. BUT-or maybe it is an AND - at the end of the day if I can truly look at the log in my own eye - the log that hinders me from viewing the world correctly, that skews my opinions and causes knee-jerk reactions, that is so obtrusive that all I can do is self-preserve and self-protect, and above all it is my pride- if I can remove that pride-soaked log through confession and repentance before casting any sort of judgment on others, then I believe that is truly what the world needs from me. That is at the root of progress.

  • #Hope*Writers Challenge Day 1= New You.Lamentations 5: 21-”Restore us to yourself, O LORD, that we may be restored!”Restore us, cleanse us, lead us to repentance. Soften our hearts and give us courage to be humble. Take out our hard hearts of stone, and replace them with soft and malleable hearts of flesh. Hearts of flesh that respond to your Holy Spirit, and reflect your Son, Jesus. You must do the work of changing our hearts. We must do the work of uncurling the grip we hold on our hearts in self-protection and self-preservation. Help us to open our hands to you and yield all that we are and all that we long to be. Only then can we do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with you, our God. Amen.
